21 Play Along with Hotel California

Here are a few fretboard exercises that you can do while jamming along to Hotel California. I hope it gives you some ideas so that you can create your own. All of these exercises will be based on identifying where the root note of the chord occurs on any of the 6 strings (intermediate) or the 3 bass-side strings (beginner).

1. Root note exercise on the E, A, D strings

2. Power Chords – 6th String Root

If you have an electric, there are a positions higher on the neck where you can play E5 (12th position) and F#5 (14th position) if you wish.

3. Power Chords – 4th, 5th, and 6th string root

Remember that there are several places where you can play each chord. This is just one example.
