You can get started with Jazz Guitar by learning to play shell voicings. A shell voicing is simplified way to play a more complicated chord as they contain just the essential notes. More often than not the essential notes are simply the 3rd and 7th chord degrees. Guitar shell voicings often have the root (the 1st chord degree) as well.
